Protected Areas

The NatureServe network actively tracks and contributes to scientific knowledge about protected areas—those sites that protect species and habitats from impacts, whether through ownership, land management, or both.

For conservation actions to succeed, we need scientifically sound knowledge about the location, status, and needs of rare and imperiled species and ecosystems.  NatureServe and its network members actively contribute to understanding of protected areas—including conservation easements—that afford some protection to the species and habitats that occur there.
