Connie Thornton-Brown serves as the Director of Human Resources at NatureServe. She oversees the Human Resources department, and manages processes from recruiting, hiring, employee relations, performance reviews, training, and benefits administration. In addition, she supervises the HR Generalist and Operations Coordinator. After joining NatureServe in 2002, Connie created the company’s first employee handbook, and worked with Workplace Dynamics to develop the first Affirmative Action Plan. In addition, she created and submitted NatureServe’s first Equal Employment Opportunity and Veterans’ Employment and Training Service forms.
Connie obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech Communications from University of North Carolina-Greensboro in Greensboro, North Carolina, and is a long-term member of the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM). Her experience working in the non-profit sector is attributed to her previous roles at The Nature Conservancy, Prison Fellowship Ministries, and the United Way. In 2013, she was nominated by staff to receive NatureServe’s Inspirational Leadership Award. When not working, Connie loves taking long walks, watching football, reading non-fiction novels, and watching superhero movies.
