NatureServe focuses on providing scientific information and services to help people understand and protect the natural world. Working with an array of audiences—from environmental organizations to business groups, and government agencies to private landowners—we support efforts directed towards many important conservation issues. Biodiversity conservation is a complex endeavor that must balance an understanding of the species and ecosystems that make up our natural world, with a sensitivity to the needs and aspirations of people. In this section we provide an overview of a few current conservation issues that demonstrate some of the challenges in achieving that balance. These issues, ranging from endangered species protection to smarter approaches to land use planning, form an essential backdrop for NatureServe's contributions to the broader conservation community.
