Data Use Training Tutorial One: Introduction to NatureServe
Play this video to complete the first Data Use Training section: Introduction to NatureServe. After you watch the tutorial you will need to take the quiz to get credit.
This training helps users of NatureServe species data to understand and, therefore, more effectively use any type of NatureServe species data. This four-part Data Use Training takes less than two hours to complete, and provides an in-depth introduction to the information NatureServe and its network members are particularly known for—the locality data or “element occurrences” that document the precise locations of rare and imperiled species. Completion of this training is required for those accessing any scale of species occurrence data that are sensitive and, therefore, governed under a data license agreement, but is also recommended for anyone using NatureServe data and/or interested in learning more about the methodology behind the development of our species data.
This online training allows you to instantly become a NatureServe Certified Data User, giving you the ability to access sensitive species occurrence data provided under a data license agreement. The training includes four segments that can be taken individually. Each segment requires watching a video, and then completing the associated quiz on the material covered. Upon successful completion of all four segments of the training, and review of your organization-specific data license agreement, you will be registered as a NatureServe Certified Data User.
Note: You can complete each of the four data use training segments at different times, but if you close out of a segment (video or quiz) before it is completed it will not remember where you were and you will have to start from the beginning. You can pause a tutorial and come back to it later as long as you don't close out of the tutorial window.
