Habitat Comments: Summary of the habitats and microhabitats commonly used, including any daily, seasonal, and geographic variation in habitat use.

Habitat Type: Value that indicates the habitat within which the taxon is primarily found range-wide. Values include: M = Marine; F = Freshwater, T = Terrestrial.

Hardwood Forest: Angiosperms that comprise over two-thirds of the canopy. For more information see Classification of Ecological Communities.

Hardwood Woodland: Angiosperms that comprise over two-thirds of the canopy.For more information see Classification of Ecological Communities.

Height of Stratum (m)
The height class (in meters) that best corresponds to the height of each layer of vegetation (identified in the associated Stratum column) in the community.

Herbaceous: For more information see Classification of Ecological Communities.

Herbaceous Wetland: Vegetated areas characterized by emergent herbaceous aquatic plants, excluding mosses and lichens. For more information see Classification of Ecological Communities.

Herbivore: Restricted to taxa that eat plant material (e.g., leaves, stems, roots, flowers), exclusive of seeds, fruits, nectar, or sap, of vascular or nonvascular plant taxa.

HI: Abbreviation for the state of Hawaii. (United States)

High Gradient: Streams with a fall of more than 2 meters per kilometer, characterized by riffles, pools, rock outcrops, and coarse sediments.
