Michael Clausell, NatureServe Controller, is responsible for initiating, monitoring, and managing NatureServe’s accounting activities. He joined NatureServe in 2013, and currently oversees the Accounting Department. His role includes the supervision of accounting staff and ensuring all financial reporting and general ledger processes operate smoothly. In addition, he serves as the primary contact for financial processes such as coordinating annual audits, completing annual budgeting, and ensuring the administration of NatureServe grants and contracts.
Michael holds an undergraduate degree from Saint Leo University in Atlanta, Georgia. He is a licensed Certified Public Accountant in the State of Virginia, and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Prior to joining NatureServe, Michael worked with an Atlanta-based public accounting firm as an Auditor of non-profit universities and other grant funded not-for-profit agencies. He has more than ten years of experience in financial reporting, federal grant compliance, and not-for-profit tax reporting.
