Parks Canada Agency - NatureServe Canada Partnership

Since 2004, Parks Canada (PCA) has had an active partnership with NatureServe Canada (NSC) and NatureServe (NS). This partnership was built out of the mutual interest in using sound scientifically-based methods, tools and information to support biodiversity conservation focused on tracking the status and location of at risk species and ecosystems. The PCA-NSC-NS partnership includes the sharing and development of species data, conservation expert collaborations, and collaborative development of tools to support PCA species protection efforts under the Species at Risk Act.

This long-time collaboration has fostered a better understanding of wildlife in Canada and, in turn, better decision-making to protect it.

Parks Canada, a department agency of the Canadian federal government, is the country’s largest landholder overseeing 46 national parks, four National Marine Conservation Areas, and 168 historic sites. All together, these sites comprise roughly 4 percent of Canada’s landmass—and more than half of the country’s 700 species at risk.
