Biotics 4: Overview

Biotics 4, the product of a multi-year development and testing process, is the newest generation of NatureServe's biodiversity data management software. Built on a sophisticated data model implemented in an Oracle database, the system incorporates custom applications for spatial data management, tabular data management, data import/export and reconciliation, and reporting. The spatial component of the system is a custom geographic information system (GIS) application that supports basic digital mapping, spatial analyses, and data visualization. The successor to our previous software package, BCD, Biotics 4 was released in November 2002 and is currently being installed at natural heritage programs throughout our Network.
