    Rebuild The SYN File

The SYN file is created when the BCD2HDMS software is installed to the BCD. It consists of all the names in the GNAME, NNAME, and SNAME fields, and is the file from which the SCIENTIFIC_NAME conversion gets its data.

Below are the steps you can take to manually recreate the SYN file. This is necessary only if you edit the data in the GNAME, NNAME, and SNAME fields after you installed the export software.

    1. Get everyone to log out of the system. If you installed the software to your Production BCD, you must get everyone to log out. Executing this program while users are still logged in (more specifically, while users are editing records in the ET file) may generate incomplete results in the SYN file. Otherwise, the process itself is safe to execute on a Networked Production BCD System.
    2. From the Main Menu, choose 'Adjuncts' | 'HDMS Conversion Utilities' | 'Rebuild SYN file'
    3. Let users log back in.
