NatureServe develops and provides the science-based information, tools, and
expert analysis needed for conservation, land use planning, and natural resource
management. NatureServe and its network of member programs are world leaders
in developing and applying scientific standards and methods that serve as the
foundation for a broad suite of products and services related to ecosystems
and at-risk species. Our products and services include:
detailed data about the location and conservation status of at-risk
species and ecosystems.
conservation services such as biodiversity inventory and mapping
of public or privately-owned lands, environmental review of proposed development
projects, and expert consultations related to conservation and land use issues.
information technology and tools including NatureServe Vista, a decision-support system for conservation and land use planning, and Biotics 4, specialized software for managing biodiversity data.
Who We Serve
NatureServe's comprehensive biodiversity databases, reflecting three decades of field
inventory and database development, are the foundation for the biodiversity
information products and services that we offer to our customers, partners,
and the public. This information is widely used by federal, state, and local
governments, conservation groups, the scientific community, private landowners,
developers, environmental consultants, and corporations. According to the New
York Times, "the network's database on species and ecosystems is widely
viewed as the most complete and detailed in the nation, and is the country's
leading source of biological information for conservation planners, government
agencies and land managers."
