NatureServe, through the generous support of American Express Foundation, will provide a new leadership training opportunity for the NatureServe network designed to increase the entire network’s effectiveness in environmental conservation by providing existing and new leaders with leadership training and practices.

The program is offered to 20 current and future leaders from among member programs and NatureServe staff at no cost to the participants. All tuition and travel-related expenses will be covered by the program for the initial offering. Participants were selected, in part, to represent all four sectors of the NatureServe network: U.S., Canada, LAC, and staff.

A professional trainer will design the curriculum and lead two in-person sessions plus monthly phone and web-based sessions. Participants will have homework between calls that will include peer-to-peer mentoring and issues specific to their workplace. The training will be customized to address leadership issues faced by our network.

Participants will emerge with a suite of knowledge and practices that increases their leadership effectiveness in their current sphere of influence and builds a foundation for future leadership roles. They will also learn more about our network and leadership opportunities within the network, and will become ambassadors for leadership by helping form communities of best leadership practices. They will emerge with a stronger personal network to support their current and future career. All of this will help the network to:

  • create a self-renewing pool of next-generation leaders
  • form communities of leadership practice
  • strengthen the connectivity and effectiveness of our network
