Coastal and Marine Ecological Classification Standard: Catalog of Units
Overview

The “CMECS Catalog,” developed and curated by NatureServe, is an online searchable database of the units described in the Coastal and Marine Ecological Classification Standard. This database has been completed for the biogeographic and aquatic settings; the water column, geoform, substrate, and biotic components; and for all the modifiers. New units will be added to this database periodically as part of the normal CMECS update process.

Note: NatureServe no longer curates CMECS content. Please visit the NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information's CMECS website for information about the CMECS vocabulary and maintenance.

Value

The CMECS Catalog provides easy access to all of the more than 1300 unit descriptions from the Coastal and Marine Ecological Classification Standard.

Features & Benefits

The CMECS Catalog provides all of the descriptions of the more than 1300 units that are published in the published CMECS Document  in a user friendly way.  The catalog allows users to browse the CMECS settings, components and subcomponents and modifiers using hierarchical trees.  It also allows users to search by keyword and to refine their searches by setting, component, subcomponent or modifier.
