We are excited to announce that NatureServe has hired a new Chief Botanist, Wesley Knapp. Wesley has over 20 years of experience in the Natural Heritage Network as a Botanist and Ecologist with both the Maryland and North Carolina Natural Heritage Programs. He has extensive field experience across much of the United States with additional fieldwork experience in Australia, Canada, and Central America. His research includes the first examination of the extinct plants of the United States and Canada, new plant species descriptions, and treatments of various plant groups in various Floras and Manuals. Wesley will be starting with the NatureServe team on Monday, November 1st. This is the second position that has been filled by a member of the Network this year. Misty Nelson, our Deputy Director of Network Relations, joined the NatureServe team in March. The expertise of our Network continues to be the backbone of what makes our organization and our community exceptional. We are eager to continue to strengthen our relationship with the Network by harnessing the expertise and perspective from it and putting those into practice at NatureServe. Thank you for the work you do each day!
