The North Carolina Natural Heritage Program is working with the Durham City Council to dedicate a new state nature preserve that will include 215 acres and one of the largest undisturbed wetlands in Durham, home to an important waterbird colony known locally as the Ellerbe Creek heron rookery.

The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) Regional Natural Heritage Program, in cooperation with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, conducted monitoring to support the recovery of the federally-listed plant large-flower skullcap. TVA has been actively involved with the conservation of this species since it was listed under the Endangered Species Act in 1986.

The Missouri Department of Conservation announced a significant milestone in population recovery efforts of the endangered Ozark hellbender: a zoo-raised hellbender successfully reproduced in the wild within the Current River.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife published the second edition of the Atlas of the Biodiversity of California. In addition to showcasing beautiful maps, photographs, and illustrations, the Atlas explores why we should care about biodiversity, what some of the current threats are to biodiversity, and what preservation and restoration strategies are underway in the state.
