At NatureServe, we believe that lasting progress for biodiversity depends on the long view, the persistent application of verified, trusted science and data. In 2025, we carried this work forward, ensuring that our data continues to generate real-world results.

2025 Highlights

Strengthening the Scientific Foundation

We reached a major milestone with an update to the U.S. National Vegetation Classification. This resource serves as the national standard for defining ecosystems, helping states and agencies identify critical habitats for species of greatest conservation need.

Expanding the Reach of Science:

With the launch of InSite by NatureServe, we are now providing companies with the data they need to understand biodiversity risks and opportunities within their own planning processes.

New Horizons in Conservation

We broadened our scientific scope this year by establishing our first dedicated mycology program and completing a landmark pollinator study that highlights the urgent risks facing our native species.

A Legacy of Recovery:

Our featured story on the Tennessee coneflower illustrates the power of the NatureServe Network. By following this species through decades of decline to its ultimate recovery, we see how long-term data protects life across the entire conservation journey.
