Puerto Rico Conservation Capacity
About this Project

Since 2004 NatureServe has been supporting Para la Naturaleza (formerly the Conservation Trust of Puerto Rico) in conserving biodiversity. NatureServe has worked with PLN to conduct a variety of assessments of the threats to, and priorities for conserving biodiversity. In 2013-14 we assessed the draft National Land Use Plan to identify how well the plan would conserve biodiversity and where key conflicts might remain. PLN developed in-house capability to use Vista to review areas of conflict, determine their importance to biodiversity conservation goals, and make recommendations to the Planning Board for strategic changes to boost biodiversity conservation. In 2016 we conducted an integrated land-sea planning project for Puerto Rico's Northeast Ecological (marine) Corridor with NOAA and the Commonwealth's Department of Natural
