Rhynchospora Mesoatlantica (Cyperaceae), an imperiled new species of beaksedge from Eastern U.S.A.
PhytoKeys

NatureServe botanist Amanda Eberly and Dr. Robert Naczi of New York Botanical Gardens published a new species of beak sedge, named Rhynchospora mesoatlantica and commonly referred to as the Mid-Atlantic beaksedge in recognition of the region where all occurrences are found. With a restricted geographic range, small number of occurrences, small population sizes, and historic and ongoing declines due to numerous threats, this species of DE, MD, and NJ is critically imperiled. The discovery challenges previous classifications and highlights the importance of ongoing conservation efforts.
