Kathy is a lifelong conservation biologist who led the effort to collect and manage critical data on the conservation status of biodiversity across the Americas as Vice President for NatureServe. She coordinated the development of international standards for ecological habitat classification and mapping at The Nature Conservancy and NatureServe and led the development of the US Federal Coastal and Marine Ecological Classification Standard. She served on multiple interagency scientific working groups, was a founding member of the board of the National Phenology Network, and has co-authored multiple journal articles. She earned an M.S. in biology from the University of Miami and a B.A.in biology and environmental studies from Macalester College. She trained at Missouri Botanical Garden, The Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute, and Resources for the Future. She is also a volunteer for the Fairfax County Partnership for Regional Invasive Species Management (PRISM) program by leading the design and data management for county-wide invasive species surveys using NatureServe’s iMapinvasives tool. She is a certified Virginia Master Naturalist and an avid birder and botanizer.
