Misty Nelson joined NatureServe as the Deputy Director of Network Relations in March 2021. Her role focuses on amplifying the collective impact of the NatureServe Network by expanding collaboration between and among NatureServe and Network programs, and by strengthening the Network overall. Prior to working at NatureServe, she served as the Lead Scientist for the California Natural Diversity Database, a NatureServe Network member program. She also has previous experience in a diverse range of subjects – including large whale biology, fisheries research, bioacoustics, and noise and light pollution impacts – all largely centered around biodiversity and at-risk species conservation science. Misty holds an M.S. in Biological Oceanography from the University of South Florida College of Marine Science and a B.A. in Environmental Biology from The University of Montana.
